A More Powerful PlayStation 4 Could Be Announced Soon
We’ve previously reported on rumors about a ‘PlayStation 4.5’ in the works by Sony. It now seems that the upgraded PlayStation 4 could be announced soon if the reports by The Wall Street Journal is of any indication.
From the report, the WSJ says that the new console will be announced earlier than the PlayStation VR’s launch in October. The console will be an entirely new model that is capable of handling ultra-high definition/resolution graphics and allow for better processing and gaming experiences with PlayStation VR.
Previous rumors also indicate that the upgraded model will be able to output 4K content and support 4K functionality. Masayasu Ito, executive vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment, has stated last year their intention to support 4K Blu-ray discs and provide 4K support for Netflix which the upgraded PlayStation 4 will be able to do.
Seeing how this could be an entirely new console, those that already purchased a PlayStation 4 might have to consider buying an entirely new console to experience the upgraded visuals and processing power.
As of right now, the PlayStation 4 retails at $349 with the PlayStation VR officially priced at $399.
