A Secret Farewell From Hideo Kojima In Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes

Hideo Kojima is notorious for including Easter Eggs and clues in the most obscure way possible. Case in point, the Metal Gear Series and the recently cancelled Silent Hills Demo, P.T. requires players thinking outside of the box to uncover all their secrets.

One certain Easter Egg in MGSV: Ground Zeroes seems to be hitting gamers close to the heart.

In the Playstation exclusive side-ops, “Deja Vu”, Snake is tasked with recreating scenes from Metal Gear Solid 1, which ranges from the chopper scene to Snake picking up chaff grenades between spotlights. As Snake goes about completing the task, Kaz will remark about a certain gun with a special light when coming across a certain warehouse.

If players checked the gun light, they’ll find that when it shines upon certain Metal Gear titles, the title will disappear. The interesting thing to note is that the titles that disappears are only Kojima-led titles. When shining the light on Metal Gear Acid, a game developed internally by Konami, the title will remain with Kaz remarking, “Looks like nothing special.”

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Hideo Kojima Message

After erasing all the titles and the Kojima Productions logo, Kaz will congratulate players on finishing the hidden objective with the message: “You did it. You’ve erased all the markings. But every one of them will always be with you.”

If that wasn’t enough, the man himself, Hideo Kojima also chimed in and gave players one bittersweet thank you. “You seem to be a fan of Hideo Kojima games…. Thank you for all the support!”

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Hideo Kojima Hidden Message

What makes this Easter Egg seemingly more deep than it originally was, is due to the drama that’s been unfolding between Hideo Kojima and Konami. With the recent decision to remove Kojima Productions and his name from the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain box art, the fact that players were tasked to erase all of Kojima’s presence in the mission seems to eerily mirrors the current situation between the two parties.

Despite the way that things have turned out, OffGamers wishes all the best for Hideo Kojima and hope that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be a huge success.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is set to release on September 1st and will come to Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and will come later to PC.
