It’s been a long time coming but congratulations to Leonardo DiCaprio for finally winning an Oscar for his role in “The Revenant“. DiCaprio was favorited to win this year’s 88th Academy Awards after having the oscar eluded him throughout his illustrious career.
Upon winning the award, DiCaprio took the stage to talk about global warming, a subject that he is a well-known proponent of.
“Making ‘The Revenant‘ was about man’s relationship to the natural world… climate change is real.” He continued, “It is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.”
DiCaprio was previously nominated for his roles in “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape“, “The Aviator“, “Blood Diamond“, and “The Wolf of Wall Street“. This marks the first win for DiCaprio, beating out stiff competition from Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl), Matt Damon (The Martian), and Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs).
