An Overwatch Fan Remembered In New Map Update
Wu Hongyu, just like any other gamer, was very excited for the release of Overwatch. Unfortunately, he was never able to play Overwatch as a day before the game’s release, he passed away.
On May 23, Wu saw someone stealing one of his classmate’s motorcycles and bravely decided to give chase by pursuing the thief on his motorcycle. He eventually caught up with the thief and collided with the stolen bike, which led to injuries that caused his death.
A screenshot of a group chat between Wu and his friends (translated by Reddit) showed that he was looking forward to Overwatch’s launch. Asking his friends “Is anyone else really waiting for the launch tomorrow?”. His last message was on May 23, the day before Overwatch officially launched.
Blizzard decided to honor Wu by adding his name to one of the spacesuits in the Lijiang Tower with Mercy’s phrase “heroes never die” in Chinese. Blizzard confirmed the tribute to Polygon, stating, “We added that in remembrance of a brave member of our community.”
