Battlegrounds Mobile India: What We Know About PUBG’s New Mobile Game

When it first entered the gaming scene, PlayerUnknown’s Battleground (PUBG) was the talk of any gaming town.

Platforms like Twitch and Facebook were filled with streamers live streaming their gameplay, and with such influences—PUBG was an overnight sensation.

Unfortunately, shooting games still have a lasting stigma and with the game being so addictive, it’s almost certain that some countries would implement restrictions to this game.

Citing Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, of engaging activities that are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity, defence and security of the country, India was one of the few countries that have banned PUBG from its citizens.

We’re sure that gamers from India would want to have a taste of the action, and as luck would have it, an early access game Battlegrounds Mobile India was announced early this year and will be here to provide Indians with the full PUBG experience.

So, let’s see what is in store for us and what we know so far of this much-anticipated mobile game.

Announcement Date for Battlegrounds Mobile India

Announcement Date and its Developers

The first thing to note about Battlegrounds Mobile India is that although they share similar game concepts and gameplay, the people behind the publishing of the game are different from the renowned PUBG.

Instead of Tencent, Battlegrounds Mobile India will be published and developed by Krafton themselves.

The news was initially announced on the 6th of May 2021 with data safety and protection being the priority of the developers.

Before the launch, Battlegrounds Mobile India will also have a pre-registration period for avid players, starting from the 18th of May.

Early Access Battlegrounds Mobile India

What We Know About the Game’s Early Access

On the 17th of June, Krafton announced that there will be an early access period for the game available on the Google Play Store.

Take note that this early access privilege is only available to players residing in India. Apparently, player slots are limited and Krafton will be giving out the access on a first-come-first-serve basis.

The early access content will act as a preview for the actual game and is developed enough to let the players know what to expect when the game is fully released.

It is also recommended that players download the app from the official Google Play Store and get the latest updates on the game’s early access from official sources like Battlegrounds Mobile India’s Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

System Requirements for Battlegrounds Mobile India

System Requirements and Performance

The reborn Battlegrounds Mobile India will also have better performance compared to PUBG Mobile Lite. It is also rumoured that this new version of the game is able to run up to 90 FPS on high-end devices with UHD graphics.

And for the system requirements, it is recommended that players have an operating system of at least Android 5.1.1 and 2 GB of RAM for optimal performance.

One of the few improvements made is file compression. The file size of the game is only 721 MB to accommodate phones with small storage sizes.

Gameplay Changes for Battlegrounds Mobile India

Notable Gameplay Changes

Having revamped their game for the Indian market, Krafton has also introduced new mechanics with differing terms from the traditional PUBG game.

Here are some of the notable changes:

  1. A Tutorial Has Been Added

To increase their player base, Krafton has decided to bring in a tutorial section for new players to get a feel of the game before entering into the competitive environment.

The said tutorial will be done in a mini-game format where the game will run players through with the basics and mechanics, teaching players how to change their weapons efficiently and how each weapon functions.

So if you’re new or not a veteran in the FPS genre, you would not have to worry about going in blind as this tutorial will act as a crutch until you get a hang of things.

  1. Change in Terminologies and Addition of Useful Reminders

We mentioned earlier that one of the reasons why PUBG was banned is because the authorities assumed that PUBG is violent by nature.

As such, Krafton has made several attempts to remedy the issue. In-game ‘kills’ will be relabeled as ‘finishes’ when players have successfully downed or eliminated someone.

Additionally, when you land a hit/shot at someone, the effects will no longer be red in colour and instead, players will be given the option of customising this effect with either yellow or green as an attempt to make this game less violent.

Dead bodies are also non-existent in this game and when you die or take someone down, the body will evaporate with a leafy effect.

Battlegrounds Mobile India will also have virtual game reminders that occasionally remind players that the game is set in a fictional world to ensure that players—especially the younger players—would not be overly immersed in the game.

  1. Better Management System

This is another helping hand from the devs to newer players. During gameplay, the game will act as a mini assistant for players, frequently telling them to check their positioning and posture which are skills players will need to have to excel in this battle royale game.

Krafton has also attempted to make the game easier and look better. The vanilla PUBG starts the player out with zero clothing but for Battlegrounds Mobile India, players will be fully clothed instead of having to loot and grind for proper clothes.

Code of Conduct for Battlegrounds Mobile India

Code of Conduct

Battlegrounds Mobile India has no place for toxic and cheating players. Krafton has stated in its terms and conditions that players can be permanently banned from breaking certain rules.

Actions that may get you perma-banned:

  1. Use of Cheating Tools

Using third-party program(s) that give players an unfair advantage.

  1. Disrupting The Client File

Apparently modding and editing the client file or the app may also result in a lifetime ban.

  1. Use of Unauthorized Payment Channels

Players may also get banned if they were to use unauthorized payment services to recharge their UC (term used for the game’s in-game currency).

Known Issues for Battlegrounds Mobile India

Known Issues

As this game is still in early development, it is expected that the game will have its bugs and issues.

Some players have faced problems when downloading certain maps or matchmaking.

Luckily, Krafton has a hotfix for these bugs where users can check the ‘routine repair’ box from the settings to ensure that the game app is properly patched.
