The last numbered Rock Band game came out in 2010, at a time when the over-saturation of the plasticky musical instrument based video had reached a critical point. Since then, the genre had all but die out. Turns out, the rhythm-based music game genre is making a comeback with Rock Band 4 and Guitar Hero Live. If you’re still yearning to be that awesome rock star you’ve dreamt of, then the upcoming Rock Band 4 is right for you.
Set to come out for Playstation 4 and Xbox One, Rock Band 4 is the latest iteration of the rhythm-based music game from developer Harmonix. The game basically simulates a live band by letting you play as a vocalist, guitarist, bassist, and a drummer by using special instrument-based controllers or microphones that mimics actual performances.
What makes the Rock Band series so popular, aside from the addictive gameplay mechanics, is the list of song that Harmonix carefully selected to pack into each game. The extensive list can range from classic acts for the rock enthusiasts, such as Ramones, Black Sabbath, The Who to even popular modern acts which includes Fall Out Boy, Foo Fighters, The Black Keys, Avenged Sevenfold and many more.
Harmonix recently announced that for the first time ever, legendary rock band Van Halen will be making their debut on Rock Band 4. Their 1984 hit song, “Panama”, will be the first song available with more songs expected after the game launches. Harmonix CEO Steve Janiak states “For years we’ve wanted to bring Van Halen’s music to Rock Band.” he continues, “Not only are the songs incredible in their own right, but they’re amazingly fun to play and perform, whether you’re on guitar, bass, drums, or vocals.”
Aside from that, a special offer is available for Playstation Plus users who pre-order the game via PSN by giving 10 bonus songs. The offer is currently available only for North, South and Central America. It is expected the bonus will be extended to European fans soon.
Rock Band 4 is expected for release on October 6th for Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Previous Rock Band peripherals will be supported on current generation consoles and old Rock Bands DLCs will also be supported.
