Indie game developer Matt Makes Games’ platformer Celeste has sold more than 500,000 copies to date.
Game designer Matt Thorson announced the news on Twitter, and promised to update Celeste with new ‘farewell level’ content in 2019. The 2D platform game Celeste has won the Best Independent Game at 2018’s The Game Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on December 6. Thorson and Noel Berry originally made this mountain-scaling platformer in four days, for the PICO-8 fantasy console.
The ‘Celeste Classic‘ was an early version of the game before they both decided to turn their prototype into a full-fledged launch, and introduced the final product to the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Windows, Linux, and MacOS this year.
