China Has Their Own Version of Pokémon GO Already
The global rollout for Pokémon GO is currently “on-hold” but if you’re in China and in need of a Pokémon fix, you can play something similar with the China clone game, City Spirit GO.
Reported by Tech In Asia, City Spirit GO takes cues from Nintendo’s app game but omits one big feature that’s prevalent in Pokémon GO and that’s augmented reality (AR). Instead, the game uses a location-based system to move you from point-to-point to discover and capture the monsters.
Similar to Pokémon GO, the game is free-to-play and uses in-app purchases/microtransactions to make its profit. While the designs are clearly inspired from Pokémon, at least the developers are trying to add variety with a different monster catching system and a surprising robust combat system.
Since Niantic and Nintendo haven’t officially announced when Pokémon GO will be available to the rest of the world, City Spirit GO and its developer Xiaoyu Sun are enjoying their time as the game is currently at the top of the Chinese App Store charts.
Pokémon GO is available now on Android and iOS on selected regions. A global rollout has been delayed with no new dates announced.
