Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden Demo Is Live For Nintendo 3DS

Dragon Ball Z fans are getting lots of love in 2015, what with the new anime series and DBZ games coming throughout the year. Add another game to the list that fans can look forward to, with Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden for Nintendo 3DS.

If you haven’t heard about Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden, then let us give you the lowdown. Extreme Butoden is fighting game based on the Dragon Ball Z universe and is developed by the amazing Arc System Works. The same people that brought you other awesome fighting games such as Guilty Gear, BlazBlue and Persona 4 Arena, to name a few.

Recently, the North American 3DS Shop made the demo for Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden available for download. If you haven’t seen the gameplay before or don’t have access to the demo, check out the video embedded below to have a taste of the combat mechanics.

Currently, the demo only holds four characters: Goku, Gohan, Vegeta and Majin Buu, but the full game will boast a roster of about 20-plus fighters to choose from. There are only two modes (battle mode and versus mode) that players can choose from in the demo. Players can battle in three-on-three brawls or by picking a main character and selecting Z-Assists, a unique combat mechanic for Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden.

With Dragon Ball, the combat is definitely fast and furious, as fans of the series come to expect. But, what makes Extreme Butoden different is the inclusion of Z-Assist characters. Z-Assist characters are basically summonable characters that players can call upon during a match to help keep the combo going for instance.

The Z-Assist characters can be unlocked and attain through a variety of ways. One such character is Yukon, a character that’s unlockable only through a special promotion that’s available in Japan. Whether these special characters will make its way onto the english version is unknown at the moment, but we expect to hear more about it soon.

Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden is available now in Japan and will come to North America on 20th October and Europe on 16th October, exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS.
