Eve Online Developer CCP Games Acquired By Korean Publisher Pearl Abyss
CCP Games, creators of Eve Online, will be acquired by Pearl Abyss, a South Korean developer that is responsible for the open-world MMORPG hit Black Desert Online.
Pearl Abyss states that CCP Games will continue operating as normal in existing studios in Reykjavik, London, and Shanghai independently. Pearl Abyss is counting on CCP Games’ expertise on matters related to development and publishing for its future projects.
Pearl Abyss CEO, Robin Jung, has issued a statement about the acquisition of CCP Games:
We are thrilled to have CCP Games join our team as Black Desert Online continues to branch out globally. CCP is a seasoned publisher with over 15 years of digital distribution experience and know-how. They have done an incredible job of engaging and maintaining their playerbase, which we aim to learn from and hope to integrate natively into our own general practices across all our games. I am confident CCP’s reputable IP and expertise in global publishing will help reaffirm our company’s dedication to developing and servicing the world’s best MMORPGs.
Players were unhappy that CCP Games are sold to Pearl Abyss, where their major concern was that the new publisher might introduced further monetization to Eve Online.
