GTA V OpenIV Modding Tool Is Available For Download Again

Following a controversial cease-and-desist order from Take-Two Interactive, OpenIV, a well-known modding tool for games such as Grand Theft Auto V and Max Payne 3, was taken offline on June 14th. The popular modding software is available for download once again after Rockstar explains it will not challenge those who create single-player mods.

“After discussions with Take-Two, Take-Two has agreed that it generally will not take legal action against third-party projects involving Rockstar’s PC games that are single-player, non-commercial, and respect the intellectual property (IP) rights of third parties.”

Take-Two found itself in hot soup after sending the letter to Yuriy “Good-NDS” Krivoruchko, developer of the modding software OpenIV. To voice their anger, modders around the world left thousands of negative reviews on Steam for GTA V and even lobbying against the publisher’s intervention through Change.org petition in retaliation for the company’s action towards OpenIV.

Rockstar’s previous statement to PC Gamer:

“Take-Two’s actions were not specifically targeting single player mods. Unfortunately OpenIV enables recent malicious mods that allow harassment of players and interfere with the GTA Online experience for everybody. We are working to figure out how we can continue to support the creative community without negatively impacting our players.”

At the time of writing, GTA V’s ratings on Steam still stands at “Overwhelmingly Negative” from their previous “Overwhelmingly Positive” and their Change.org petition has surpassed its 50,000 goal. As Rockstar intends to only go after mods that affect GTA Online, it is great that the situation has been resolved for now.
