Half-Life Fans Vents Their Frustration By Giving Dota 2 Negative Reviews
After Marc Laidlaw, an ex-Valve writer, posted a fan fiction on his blog of what could have been a plot summary of the Half-Life series, Valve’s Dota 2 immediately gets bombarded with negative reviews by frustrated Half-Life fans, as a number of them placing the blame on Valve’s MOBA for killing a possible release of a new Half-Life sequel.
With the recent announcement of Dota card game Artifact and Ladilaw’s publishing of what is interpreted to be the proposed plot to Half-Life 2: Episode Three, seems to be the reason that Dota 2 is flooding with bad reviews.
Marc Laidlaw did mention in several tweets that his motives were clearly personal as he wanted to put things aside.
It was an emotional release, not a tactical one. Not trying to critique or influence anybody. Valve is family.
Valve have become increasingly quiet on the status of Half-Life and the cancellation of Half-Life 2 Episode 3 seems obvious with the release of Artifact. With over 770,000 reviews, Dota 2 is still the most popular game on Steam and their reviews are still “mostly positive” for now.
