Why Was Ultimate Game Card Discontinued?

Global eCommerce sales were $948 billion in 2010, and it made sense for Visa to acquire UGC to try and attract more consumers. It was a smart acquisition, and Visa paid $190 million plus additional considerations for PlaySpan.

It was a great time for gamers, and it really was revolutionary in the way that it allowed access to titles that were vast.
But all good things eventually come to an end.
The card stuck around for three years after the company was acquired by Visa. August 14, 2014 marked the last day that consumers were able to redeem all of their points. The UGC was completely discontinued on August 15 of the same year.
