Here’s How Much Space You’ll Need To Play PlayStation VR
PlayStation VR’s release is upon and if you’re one of the lucky few that managed to grab the preorders, then you’ll need to check if you meet the requirements to use the virtual reality headset.
Based on a brochure that Polygon obtained, in order to use the PlayStation VR, you’ll need 9.8 ft by 6.2 ft of space for the PlayStation Camera, which is required to use the VR headset itself. Essentially, you’ll need roughly 60 square ft of space, which should be the average size of a smallish living, bedroom, or game room.
“Limit your use of PS VR to within the Play Area,” according to the brochure. “Clear an area larger than the Play Area of all obstacles before using PS VR and remain seated whenever possible. If the application requires you to stand while wearing the VR headset, follow the application instructions carefully, and maintain awareness of your surroundings.”
If you’re not getting the PlayStation VR but are thinking of picking one up in the future, this might be something to consider as a certain amount of space is definitely required to play VR. Though the requirements for PlayStation VR is mostly in-line with the HTC Vive (5 ft by 6.5 ft though it can support up to 15 ft x 15 ft).
The PlayStation VR will launch on October 13. There will be two bundles available which are: PlayStation VR Launch Bundle ($499 and includes the PlayStation Camera and Move controllers) and the core pack ($399 with just the headset).
