Malaysian professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player Andrew “kaze” Khong has arrived in Germany to compete in the upcoming IEM Cologne 2021. Kaze is the sole Southeast Asian representative at the premier event. He is an AWPer who currently plays for Chinese organization ViCi Gaming.
Considered to be one of the underrated talents in CS:GO, kaze’s skills have been compared to that of Nicolai Hvilshøj “dev1ce” Reedtz, a Danish professional CS:GO player who became the first person to win four Majors in CS:GO.
Kaze began playing Counter-Strike in 2006 and started playing competitively three years later after excelling at the game. In 2014, he was a substitute for a Singaporean team before earning himself a spot at Malaysian team MVP.Karnal in 2015. The lineup was later acquired by Fire Dragoon Esports.
Kaze and his team are scheduled to play their first match of the IEM Cologne play-in stage against Complexity Gaming 9.20pm (GMT+8).
A total of 16 teams will compete in the play-in stage, but only eight will qualify for the US$972,000 main event. He will be up against teams like Gambit, Natus Vincere, G2, Heroic, and Virtus Pro.
Will he emerge as the champion? Stayed tuned with OffGamers for more gaming news.
