In the game, N7 is used to signify Shepard’s ability to have graduated from the Interplanetary Combatives Training program at the highest level, in the real world, however, N7 Day is held on November 7th where fans of Mass Effect celebrate anything to do with Mass Effect. And this year, we got a surprise trailer from BioWare for the upcoming Mass Effect Andromeda.
Mass Effect Andromeda is set to take place after the events of the Mass Effect trilogies. However, as fans the series might have noticed, the person that’s narrating the trailer should be familiar. If you haven’t realized it yet, it’s the voice of Jennifer Hale, the female version of commander Shepard.
Listening to the narration, it’s obvious that BioWare intended this trailer to be a farewell speech for Commander Shepard, as he/she pass the torch to a new protagonist, who is set to take over the series in the upcoming Mass Effect Andromeda. Yanick Roy, the studio director for BioWare, confirmed it at twitter in a response to a tweet from a fan.
@tomphillipsEG Plans haven't changed: this is Shepard signing off, wishing you/us godspeed on a new adventure
— Yanick Roy (@YanickRRoy) November 7, 2015
The trailer itself is a classic Mass Effect-style trailer with Commander Shepard providing a dramatic voiceover with archival footage of mankind’s journey towards spaceflight through the years. It wasn’t until at the end that we get to see a unique spaceship travelling, which might be the ship that players use to travel the galaxy, similar to the Normandy in previous Mass Effect iterations.
While there’s no new information regarding Mass Effect Andromeda in the trailer, the significance of BioWare closing the chapter on Commander Shepard is quite an emotional farewell to fans. The final line that Shepard utters, “We will say goodbye and you will look back one last time, and know that wherever you go, we will be with you,” is enough make any hardened N7 soldier get emotional. If you haven’t seen trailer yet, we’ve embedded it below:
Mass Effect Andromeda is scheduled for a Holiday 2016 release and will come to Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.
