Recently, Niantic posted a new patch that replaces the troubled Pokémon tracking system “Nearby” with “Sightings”, which gives a more accurate reading of nearby Pokémon available.
Many thought that “Sightings” was meant to replace “Nearby”. Turns out, Niantic still intends to bring back the “Nearby Pokémon” function and some user were lucky enough to be chosen to test out the new version.
It seems that with the new update, “Nearby” will indicate creatures that are available near PokéStops while “Sightings” will show Pokémon creatures that are outside the vicinity of PokéStops, but are nearby the users.
Here’s a video of the new “Nearby” feature in action over on YouTube:
Currently, only the “Sightings” feature is available to all users while the “Nearby” feature seems to be available to a limited number of users. If the feature testing goes well, Niantic will probably roll it out to everyone within the next update.
