Nintendo NX Will Still Have Physical Retail Games
While no details have emerged on Nintendo’s new console, the NX, one thing’s we can say for certain is that it will not be a digital-only console.
GameStop’s CEO Paul Raines dropped the information during the company earnings call, mentioning that the Nintendo NX will indeed still use physical media.
“I would say that the fact that there are rumours of that type just confirms for you that this is an important console for next year,” Raine continued, “It will have physical media, we will play a role in it, our pre-owned business will also play a role. So we’re excited about that.”
There have been plenty of rumours floating around regarding the NX with the most recent being that Nintendo is opting for cartridges instead of optical discs for its new console. Mike Mauler from GameStop chimed in on Nintendo’s supposed switch to cartridges, stating, “The only difference would be on the refurbishment and pre-owned side. And actually, cartridges are much simpler to refurbish and repackage. So there is somewhat a little bit of an advantage if it went in that direction on used”.
Now that you know that Nintendo will still be using physical media, are you still excited for the NX? Let us know in the comments!
