Nintendo’s Gold Points That Can Be Redeemed For Switch Games

Good news for Switch users, Nintendo is going to roll out a reward program for its loyal customers. The company announced in a blog post which players are soon going to be able to spend Gold Points, earned by buying Nintendo games.

In the United States for instance, a $50 purchase will get you 250 Gold Points or a $2.50 discount. If you do not have enough points, you can always make up the difference by paying cash. The change will come into effect in early March for US, UK and European Switch owners. Gold points are valid for a year, which means that you can wait and accumulate a sizeable pile of games before cashing in the points on a brand new title.

Nintendo revealed the details on their post:

– Buy a qualifying digital game for Nintendo Switch, Wii U™, or Nintendo 3DS™ family systems or a physical game for the Nintendo Switch system.
– Earn Gold Points worth 5% of the amount you pay, not including any points or discounts used*.
– You can then redeem those points on your next eligible digital purchase (including games and DLC) for the Nintendo Switch system from Nintendo eShop or Nintendo.com.
– Buying a physical game for the Nintendo Switch system will earn you Gold Points worth 1% of the Nintendo eShop purchase price for that game.

Nintendo tested the concept last year using both 3DS and Wii U titles. It turned out to be a temporary promotion, however, as it was only applicable to Runner2, Art of Balance and Zen Pinball 3D.
