Overwatch Gets The Summer Olympics Treatment With New Add-Ons

The Olympic Summer Games is set to begin this weekend but Blizzard is already kicking off the event with Summer Games themed add-ons! For the next three weeks, get special Loot Boxes and play in an entirely brand new mode in Overwatch.

For the Summer Games 2016 update, a special seasonal Loot Boxes will be available starting today which includes “over 100 new cosmetic items”. The special Summer Games themed Loot Boxes will contain Summer Games themed sprays, emotes, victory poses, highlight intros, players icons, and a number of special skins.

Blizzard noted that once you unlocked a Summer Games item, it’s yours forever. However, once the event ends, the collection will head back to the vault, so if you’re looking to get that special Tracer skin, you’ll have to do it before the event ends on August 22. Thankfully, Blizzard confirmed that in every Loot Box, players can expect at least 1 Summer Games themed item from the collection.

In addition to the new cosmetic items, Overwatch is also getting a special Summer Games themed mode called Lúcioball. The best way to describe Lúcioball is if Blizzard took Rocket League and replaced all the cars with Lúcio. That’s basically what Lúcioball is. The Overwatch Summer Games 2016 event is live now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and will run until August 22nd.
