PlanetSide 1 Servers Shutdown With Emotional Meteor Shower

Sony Online Entertainment launched the MMO first-person shooter PlanetSide back on May 20, 2003. Thirteen years later, Daybreak Games finally shut down the servers to one of the biggest MMO shooters ever. And they did it with an apocalyptic meteor shower.

While it always sad for a game to close it servers, especially one as storied PlanetSide, they at least did with style. In the final moments of the game, the developers led loose a meteor storm on all the remaining planets to destroy all living things. This extinction level only happened once during the in-game event The Bending where only one planet ended up exploding.

This time around, however, none of the planets will be so lucky. Witness the final moments of PlanetSide 1, courtesy of Steven Messner, as they face annihilation together for the very last time.
