Return To The Brutally Challenging Nightmare With Dark Souls 3

During Microsoft’s Press Conference, audiences and gamers around the world were treated to a pretty sweet looking gameplay trailer from the latest Souls series with Dark Souls 3 and fans were not disappointed.

The debut gameplay trailer focused heavily on the storyline and atmosphere for the third iteration of Dark Souls with monsters that seem to come straight out of nightmares. It wasn’t until the second half of the trailer where fans were treated to quick cuts of actual gameplay that looked as punishingly addictive as ever.

As with Dark Souls, fans can expect some pretty epic boss battles and based on the trailer, the boss are even more terrifying this time around. For those who were afraid that Dark Souls 3 will adopt Bloodborne’s faster paced combat, worry not, as many hands-on previews indicated that Dark Souls 3 will be more of that Dark Souls goodness.

Although there were not any significant changes to combat mechanics, there will be a new feature called “Weapon Art” which is a system that gives a number of special moves that’s weapon-specific. And to make it interesting, it is only available for a certain number of times and is rechargeable near bonfires.

Of course, there are plenty more micro changes that From Software have done which hardcore Dark Souls fans will definitely dissect and master. All the usual favorites are back with bonfires, asynchronous multiplayer and brutal PvP combats that will definitely test a Dark Souls fan mettle.

IGN managed to get an exclusive extended demo that runs 16 minutes long and fans were able to get a first look at one of the bosses and the all-too-familiar combat system in action. Check out the video embedded below.

Dark Souls 3 is scheduled for a 2016 release and will come to Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.
