Square Enix Developing New Fix To Chrono Trigger’s Graphics
Last February, Square Enix had released the classic Chrono Trigger on Steam, but it was a mobile port instead of the original game from 1995 and fans were unhappy about it. To right this wrong, Square Enix has decided to patch the game with an option to switch between the current visuals and the original graphic style of the game.
There was much excitement when it was announced that a PC version of this 2D RPG originally released for the Super NES was in the works. However, when that PC port appeared, it had been heavily criticised for adopting a more modern style. Following community feedback, Square Enix is developing the patch for the game which will restore the original’s blocky appearance and texture.
In a Steam community article, Square Enix stated that they have been working on addressing the issues that players have raised, and will be releasing a number of patches over the coming months as they will continue to support Chrono Trigger on Steam. The company is aiming to release the first of these patches in the first half of April, and the biggest change is that it is going to include an option to switch between the current high-resolution graphics, as well as the original graphical style of Chrono Trigger.
The article also announced that the company are also going to extend the availability of the Limited Edition until 5pm, April 30.
