Street Fighter 5 Beta Is Down, Capcom Apologizes To Fans

It’s been a tumultuous week for Capcom as the Street Fighter 5 Beta had been suffering significant issues with its servers and online stability ever since its beta period started. After all that, Capcom have decided to pull the plug and postpone the beta indefinitely.

This is an unfortunate news for hardcore Street Fighter fans but probably not unexpected as the game had suffered connectivity issues as soon as it was launched on July 23rd. The game was inaccessible for so many players that Capcom was forced to do maintenance several times on the servers.

A statement from Capcom, apologizing on the situation, was posted on the Capcom-Unity site and reads as follows:

“Capcom offers its sincerest apologies to everyone who participated in this first beta test. While the purpose of a beta is to work out these types of issues, it was very clear that the issues we faced were more severe than we were prepared for. After three days of testing, while we were making progress and collecting valuable data, we felt the majority of players were not having a good experience, and the best course of action would be to take the servers offline for extended maintenance. We will be postponing for our first beta phase until we believe the experience is going to be a positive one for players.”

Associate Producer Peter Rosas went on to explain that this beta will not count as a true beta and fans can expect at least three more rounds of beta for Street Fighter V in the future. Fans that pre-ordered the game will still have access to future betas as well. Rosas also notes that players that were able to access the beta can expect some sort of incentive for their participation.

“We understand how frustrating it is to be so close to playing the game you are excited for, and to not have it working,” Rosas continues, “The whole team here is very disappointed that we were unable to deliver a proper beta experience this time. Thank you so much for your continued support, and we promise that we will have a better experience for you with the future betas.”

Let’s hope the next beta will go much smoother for Capcom and Street Fighter V. Street Fighter V is expected to launch next year on Playstation 4 and PC.
