Somehow we’ve made it halfway through the year, and summer is coming! The heat, the holidays, the good times; they’re all on the tip of our fingertips. Since COVID is still alive and rampant in certain parts of the world (including ours), let’s opt to sit in and play some games instead!
Most of these releases will be on PlayStation, so make sure to get some PlayStation Gift Cards to prepare for the coming of these hot releases. You’re probably gonna need them for what we’re about to show you.
Alright then, here you go; some games set to release in the summer of 2021 for a good time indoors.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (PlayStation 5)
Release Date: June 11th, 2021
Being the sixteenth installment in the series, you’ve probably heard of this shooter platformer somewhere before. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart takes place after the events of Ratchet & Clank: Into The Nexus and is said to be the first reimagining of the series.
It’s basically a revival attempt at the franchise for a whole new generation of players (veterans are welcome of course). Well, it’s nice to know that the new generation could have a taste of something that everyone used to enjoy.
Ratchet & Clank are a duo on an adventure to stop Dr. Nefarious from taking advantage of a dimensional apocalypse to conquer worlds of different realities. Sounds complicated, but it’s actually pretty straightforward once you start playing it.
Mario Golf: Super Rush (Nintendo Switch)
Release Date: June 25th, 2021
Mario and golf? Well, sign me up! Honestly, if someone has been nagging you to get out and play some sport or get some exercise, you can always just tell them you’re busy golfing. Technically, it’s not a lie!
Nintendo is back at it again with Mario Golf: Super Rush, dressing these well-known characters in tucked-in polo shirts and golf caps. The game incorporates traditional golf rules as well as several game modes for players to dabble in. There’s Battle Golf, Speed Golf, and Golf Adventure which is a story mode.
So why not just plug in some extra consoles and get to playing with your friends and family? Honestly, it sounds like a good bonding time.
Neo: The World Ends With You (PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch)
Release Date: July 27th, 2021
An upcoming RPG by Square Enix and the long-awaited sequel to The World Ends With You released way back in 2007. Unlike its predecessor, this title is a fully 3D title. Players will now get to control a new set of characters playing the ‘Reaper’s Game’ in Tokyo’s Shibuya.
There are multiple characters that you will have to control at once during combat, which is done by attacking enemies with psychic abilities granted by pins. Only one pin can be equipped per character, and there are over 300 to choose from. Different pin combinations will create different combination attacks among the group.
Have fun figuring out which combinations work best as you run through the city.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (PlayStation 5)
Release Date: June 10th, 2021
Alright, the Final Fantasy VII Remake was released last year, but that’s just part one of the series’ remake. Part two is said to potentially release sometime next year. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is the upgraded version of part one releasing for the PlayStation 5. It features new content, performance enhancements as well as Yuffie’s debut into the remake.
The FFVII Remake Intergrade is a modern retake of the original story, including minor narrative tweaks which could create more changes in the storyline down the line. You can also use Yuffie to battle and explore the Final Fantasy world. Familiar bosses like Weiss and Nero are also spotted through the trailers, so expect to encounter them within the game.
One of the biggest surprises is the availability to summon Ramuh in the DLC, as he was absent in the original game. There’s definitely a huge upgrade in graphics and visuals with the Intergrade version, so you might not want to miss out on it after all.
Cris Tales (PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows, Xbox, Stadia)
Release Date: June 20th, 2021
A turn-based RPG messing around with the concept of time, Cris Tales is a game that a lot of us have been keeping an eye out for. The manipulation of time in the game both on the map and in battles directly affects every outcome of the gameplay.
The screen will be split into three to indicate the manipulation of time, showing the past, present, and future outcomes. As you go through the story, Crisbell (the protagonist) and Matias are tasked with completing a series of missions with the help of crystal powers to change the actions of the past or future through time jumps.
The game has some pretty nifty graphics, the visual style is pleasant to the eyes and the storyline is enticing. The outcome is in your hands, so make sure to choose wisely.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits (PlayStation, Microsoft Windows)
Release Date: August 24th, 2021
Kena: Bridge of Spirits is the first-ever game to be developed by Ember Lab, a small team of indie developers. It follows the story of Kena as she uses her magical spiritual abilities to guide the dead from the physical world to the spirit world.
Players will collect Rot, these small, adorable spirit companions to help them complete tasks and battle against enemies. Kena herself uses a staff to fight against enemies as well as a pulse ability which affects the entire surrounding area in defense.
The game’s world is inspired by locations such as Japan and Bali, along with the inclusion of Asian traditional music through the use of the gamelan. Truly, this will be a beautifully crafted world with some spice from the East.
