Super Star Wars might be 23 years late to the party but fans of Star Wars, new and old, can finally get their hands on the classic 16-bit side-scroller by LucasArts on Playstation. The Super Nintendo classic will be making its Playstation debut on the Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita.
Super Star Wars was released as part of a Star Wars classic games lineup that includes Star Wars: Race Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter and Star Wars Bounty, that is coming exclusively to Playstation. Gamers can either pick up the Star Wars: Battlefront Playstation 4 Bundle to receive codes for them or purchase the games separately as Sony releases them, one by one on the Playstation Network.
On their official Playstation blog, Super Star Wars is described as “Enhanced for PS4 with new save features, leaderboards, Trophies, and updated display and controller options. Risk your life as a Jedi Knight! Join Luke, Han, and Chewbacca in their fierce war against the evil Empire.”
Super Star Wars is currently priced at $9.99 and for those that pick up the game, they will be able to own it on both Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita as the game will feature cross-buy. Whether the rest of the titles will feature cross-buy is unknown as only Super Star Wars is currently listed on both Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita.
Originally released on Super Nintendo in 1992 and later re-released on the Wii’s Virtual Console in 2009, Super Star Wars will take gamers back to the retro charm of the 16-bit era while newer gamers can get a taste of what a classic LucasArts side-scroller plays like.
The remastering of the classic Star Wars‘ games is in conjunction with the release of EA’s Star Wars: Battlefront, which is currently available on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Fans of Star Wars can experience battles on iconic Star Wars locations such Hoth and Endor on the game, as well as experiencing the “Battle of Jakku”, which will serve as a pre-cursor to the Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie, that hits theaters on December 18th.
