First, the Tetris movie is real. Second, it’s going to be a sci-fi trilogy. As confirmed by Empire, it looks like the world’s most famous puzzler will be an epic video game movie franchise.
Why? “Purely because the story we conceived is so big.” said producer Larry Kasanoff. “This isn’t us spitting the last one of our eight movies in two to wring blood out of the stone. It’s just a big story.”
Given that the Tetris movie will possibly revolve around puzzle blocks falling into place, it’s hard to imagine what kind of story could warrant a trilogy. But Kasanoff seems to be confident about the movie saying that it won’t be “blocks with feet running around the movie.”
“We want the story to be a surprise, but it’s a big science fiction movie,” Kasanoff tells Empire. “I came up with the idea as I was thinking about Tetris and the them of creating order out of chaos.”
Despite Kasanoff’s confident outlook, a Tetris trilogy seems to be too much of a stretch for the block-based puzzler. Who knows, if all the right pieces fall into place (pardon the pun), then they might just pull it off.
