The Town of Light
The Town of Light is a first-person psychological thriller title that takes place in an abandoned psychiatric asylum, Volterra. This game is developed by Luca Dalcò.
The game was inspired by a real-life event regarding Law 180/Basaglia Law. Before Law 180/Basaglia Law was passed in Italy, anyone diagnosed with a mental illness could be sent to a state-run mental institution where the aim wasn’t to treat but to detain. Once you entered a facility, you were stripped of your civil rights and could be subjected to harsh treatment that stemmed from overpopulation: problem patients would be strapped to their beds for days, sedatives were prescribed to dull patients’ minds, and patients had no say in aggressive treatments like electric shock therapy.
According to the developer via Kotaku, Ospedale Psichiatrico di Volterra is “a place to send people society didn’t want to save.” Players will be playing the role of Renee, a 16 years old girl who is admitted into the Volterra hospital. Besides that, players will play through the memory of Renee who suffered an anxiety disorder and learn how she survived in the hospital.
This game will be available on PC and PS4. Until now not much of information is being released but stay tuned for more updates!
