The World Of Project Spark Is Free For All To Play

It seems that Project Spark, the UGC game creation tool will be transitioning into a completely free game on October 5th. The game was using a free-to-play model with purchasable add-ons for a while, but this change will make the game accessible to all the in-game content for free.

Project Spark Now Free

When the Xbox One first came to light, one of the games that Microsoft showcased was Project Spark. A game that, not only seek to take advantage of Xbox One’s Cloud Computing technology, but to also (ahem) spark the creativity of players, the same way that Little Big Planet did for Playstation fans.

Despite managing to build a loyal fanbase, Project Spark was not able to catch as much traction as Microsoft had hoped for. DLCs, such as the Conker content, was planned for release to entice gamers to create more user-generated content. However, with Project Spark going completely free, all planned DLCs have been cancelled with Microsoft claiming that they will no longer focus on releasing content.

There will be, however, a number of new content and features dropping on October 5th for Project Spark, which includes:

– The maximum terrain limit in creation has been doubled
– The maximum prop limit in creations has been increased by 500
– 200+ Assets have been added in game, including a dragon, a goblin warlord, bog biome, and a set of primitive blocks
– Each creator will now have a total of 100 Upload Slots for their creations
– UGC ranking will be based on downloads and favourites, instead of upvote/downvote ratings.
– The Project Spark Marketplace has been removed
– The Project Spark Tour and Treasure Trove have been removed
– Achievements have been revamped for players and creators

If you purchased Project Spark, either digitally or through retail disc and activated the game on July 28th, 2015 and after or have balances of purchased in-game tokens, Microsoft will be giving you Microsoft Store credits equivalent to the money spent. Those who qualify will be getting their Microsoft Store credits 30-60 days after October 5th.
