With the new year just around the corner, 2022 is already packing in some great gaming experiences from the get-go. There’s a lot to look forward to in the coming months, let’s see what’s new and upcoming in the gaming world.
Monark
Coming from ex-developers of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, Monark definitely carries that same post-apocalyptic feel while bringing in the Persona sub-series’ high school gameplay. With turn-based battles and multiple endings, Monark will be the first JRPG of 2022 to truly take up your time should you pick it up.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus
The highly anticipated reimagining of the Pokémon formula, players will be exploring an ancient version of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl’s Sinnoh region, with gameplay that is inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Monster Hunter World. Pokémon Legends: Arceus can be the reinvigoration that the franchise really needs.
Elden Ring
FromSoftware and George R. R. Martin’s collaborative project is already being hailed as a masterpiece based on its recent beta test. A true evolution of FromSoftware’s signature game design philosophy, Elden Ring is still very much a spooky action-RPG with layers upon layers of lore and secrets for the player to uncover.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin
A complete reimagining of the original Final Fantasy, Stranger of Paradise is more than just Dark Souls but with Final Fantasy characters and terminology. It’s definitely a lot more like Code Vein with its party-based combat and the player’s access to a whole bunch of character classes, so if you were into that game, then Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin will be a blast.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
In many ways, the original Borderlands was the perfect hybrid between Halo-style FPS gameplay with Dungeons and Dragons’ style role-playing. So in a move that comes full circle, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands goes all in on the fantasy elements while keeping the four-player campaigns and absurd humor that the franchise is known for.
