Today, Ubisoft and Malaysian-based company R. Segari Group (RSG) are teaming up to create a 10,000-square-meter indoor theme park in Kuala Lumpur.
This theme park is scheduled to open its doors in 2020. Although the estimated cost of development and content are yet to be finalized, as explained by Ubisoft Motion Pictures Senior VP Jean de Rivières, “All 15 Ubisoft IPs will be considered for use in the park”. According to 2014 data from the World Tourism Organisation, Malaysia is the second-most-visited country in Asia.
In addition, Ubisoft will aim to build upon the success of the award-winning Rabbids Time Machine ride at the Futuroscope theme park in Poitiers, France.
“Ubisoft’s intention for this park is to immerse people in reactive worlds where they can interact with each other and become the heroes of their own life-sized game,” said Jean de Rivières, senior vice president of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, in a statement. “Ubisoft will produce all digital media for the rides, and help design guests’ journey into the park to ensure the visitors’ experience is at its best.”
The park will be built by Malaysian theme park developer RSG, with Ubisoft retaining full creative control.
The RSG Group is a Malaysian-based theme park development company best known for their latest project currently under development – a movie animation park studio in Ipoh which began construction last year. The park is a collaboration between Dreamworks and a Malaysian animation studio responsible for the creation of BoBoiBoy.
Through an interview question on the glut of theme parks in the Southeast Asian region with Legoland in Johor and Universal Studios in Singapore down south, the chairman Ramelle Ramli responded “I believe the market can absorb at least two to three more international theme parks. I don’t see it as competition; but more of a complementary to each other. There need to be more world-class entertainment parks in Malaysia.”
