Valve announced that it’s retiring any non-gaming videos out of its services.
In a brief post, Valve claims that Steam users are not interested in non-gaming video content. Thus, the video section of the menu has been disabled and the only way to locate videos are via the related store page or through recommendations and tags. Streaming videos on Steam is a feature that enables watching a video on Steam’s platform without the need to first download the video locally.
In reviewing what Steam users actually watch, it became clear we should focus our effort on offering content that is either directly related to gaming or, is accessory content for games or software sold on Steam. As part of this refocus, we have retired the Video section of the Steam Store menu with an expectation that video content is discovered via the associated game or software store page, or through search, user tags, recommendations, etc.
Gaming-related films will still be available from the game’s actual store page while the non-gaming videos will be removed from Steam in a few weeks time.
