Valve Upsets CS:GO Players By Changing The Rules To Skin Trades

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive received an update last week that has a huge change to skin trading. Skin trading and the economy market around it are big parts of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for many players.

According to counter-strike.net, any items you receive through trading will have a seven-day trading cool down, which doesn’t allow you to transfer an item to another user quickly.

Valve came up with this idea in a bid to stop scams and lower fraud, and the company is extending its seven-day trade cooldown to CS:GO items such as skins obtained via trades. To put it differently, players will need to wait seven days prior to the item they just received in a trade can be traded again or sold via the marketplace. Skins purchased on the Steam Market already have this trade hold in place, but trades between players were exempt from this restriction. This enabled skin trading websites to sell or purchase skins from other players easily and instantly.

The biggest reason why these exist in the first place is that they let players who have rare or expensive skins to cash out. Instead of getting Steam Wallet money by selling their items on the Steam Market, these websites instead offer PayPal and wire transfers. This change will likely not get rid of the need for their existence entirely, but it is going to hit their business model hard, especially when it comes to volatile rates for some skins.

Valve will continue to evaluate the trading policies as time goes on and players should remember this new ruling before trading skins to others.
