We Might Be Getting PlayStation 4 Neo This Year

Details have emerged on Sony’s more powerful console, The PlayStation 4 Neo, and it looks like we might be getting the 4K ready console this year.

Digital Foundry reported the news based on several sources who indicate that the console will be released around late 2016. The piece states, “Several sources have indicated to me that PlayStation Neo launches this year, despite its E3 no-show. If that’s the case, it’ll be interesting to see how developers utilise it resources, and whether 4K really is the focus.”

Sony Interactive Entertainment president, Andrew House, confirmed before E3 that PlayStation 4 Neo is real but that it wouldn’t be making it debuts at E3. Instead, it was Microsoft that made a new console reveal with not one, but two consoles with the Xbox One S and Project Scorpio.

While the Xbox One S is a slimmer version of the Xbox One, the Project Scorpio is supposed to be Microsoft’s answer to Sony’s PlayStation 4 Neo. However, if the reports of Neo’s release are to be believed, Sony will have a year’s head start over Microsoft as Project Scorpio is not due for release until fall 2017.

If Sony really intends to release the Neo this year, then it’s possible they’ll make the announcement on either Gamescom, Tokyo Game Show, or Paris Games Week. Or they could just hold another exclusive event, just as they did for the PlayStation 4.
